The last photographs of Kurt Cobain taken during his lifetime will be on display at the exhibition opening ceremony

Feb 14, 2013

The "Kurt-Jesse Frohman Exhibition," focusing on New York photographer Jesse Frohman's final photographs of Kurt Cobain, will be held at OPENING CEREMONY in Shibuya, Tokyo, from March 8th.

This exhibition is the third installment of the "TOKYO CULTURAL NETWORK PROJECT," an initiative by OPENING CEREMONY to promote diverse culture in collaboration with creators active in Tokyo.

The exhibition will feature 17 photographs taken by Frohman of Cobain on November 15th, 1993, prior to his New York performance. The photoshoot, originally planned for a cover story in the Observer magazine, was scheduled for Central Park, but at the request of his manager, it was quickly changed to a hotel conference room, where a makeshift photo studio was set up with only a backdrop. Cobain arrived more than three hours late, never removing his sunglasses throughout the shoot. The exhibition's opening, held in New York last April to commemorate the 18th anniversary of Cobain's death, was attended by actor Jude Law, Nick Zinner of YEAH YEAH YEAHS, and designer Anna Sui. The after-party featured a live performance by The Virgins and a DJ set by Jarvis Cocker of PULP.
