Moyoco Anno's "Sugar Sugar Rune" fashion show and exhibition to be held at Kyoto International Manga Museum!

Feb 21, 2013

A fashion show and exhibition showcasing clothing themed on Moyoco Anno's magical girl manga "Sugar Sugar Rune" will be held at the Kyoto International Manga Museum. The event is part of the Kyoto Manga Girls Collection (Kyoto MaGiC), a project launched in 2011 to create costumes inspired by shojo manga. The fashion show, "Chocolat and Vanilla - Magical Girl's Wardrobe," will be held on March 3rd and will feature recreations of clothing from the series by winners of a public competition, as well as original clothing inspired by the series. Kyoto-based brand Pagong, which creates and sells clothing and bags using kimono designs, has recreated 12 items, including loungewear, using yuzen fabric. Romance, a select shop in Teramachi, Kyoto, which handles high-end brands and sells original clothing and accessories, will create 16 pieces that offer a unique interpretation of the world of "Sugar Sugar Rune." The exhibition "Chocolat and Vanilla's Closet," opening on March 20, will display clothing featured in the series as well as related materials from the time of its serialization. Born in 1971, Moyoco Anno rose to fame with "Happy Mania," which was also adapted for TV. In addition to works aimed at women, such as "Jelly in the Merry-Go-Round," "Wearing a Dress Called Fat," and "Love Master X," she has also published comics aimed at men, including "Flowers and Bees," "Sakuran," and "Working Man." In 2009, she collaborated with Shu Uemura. "Sugar Sugar Rune," which ran in Nakayoshi magazine from 2003 to 2007, tells the story of Chocolat, a girl living in the demon world, and her best friend Vanilla, who descend to the human world as candidates for queen and face off against each other. It was also adapted into an anime in 2005.
