SDKA001To commemorate the 140th anniversary of Seiko's founding, Seiko Watch Corporation will release a limited-edition model that inherits the design of the historical King Seiko model, which was born in 1961 and led the Japanese luxury mechanical watch market, in Japan and overseas from January 22, 2021. The suggested retail price is 385,000 yen (tax included) (350,000 yen excluding tax).
King Seiko pursued high levels of performance, design, and elegance, demonstrating the ideal of a Japanese-made luxury watch.
In the late 1950s, in an effort to usher in a new era of Japanese-made wristwatches, Seiko reexamined the performance required of a wristwatch and released a series of groundbreaking models that incorporated its own unique philosophy into the design and movement. One culmination of this effort was the Grand Seiko, the pinnacle of Japanese-made wristwatches, which was launched in 1960.
The King Seiko, launched the following year in 1961, shared the same essence of the wristwatch as the Grand Seiko, and together they led the evolution of Seiko's luxury mechanical watches.
2021 marks the 140th anniversary of Seiko's founding, as well as the 60th anniversary of King Seiko's birth. To kick off this memorable year, King Seiko is being reborn with modern technology.

The original “KSK” model was equipped with a hand-wound movement, but this model uses the automatic caliber 6L35, the thinnest of Seiko's current models, achieving a slim form that is excellent for wearability at 11.4mm, just 0.5mm thinner than the original model.
【Seiko History】
Founder Kintaro Hattori was born on October 9th, 1860 (lunar calendar; November 21st in the Gregorian calendar) in what is now Ginza. As a boy, Kintaro observed the operation of a watch shop and decided to become a watch merchant. He realized that profits could be made not only through sales but also through repairs, and that even on days when there were few customers, precious time would not be wasted. He subsequently learned watch repair and sales at a watch shop. In 1881, at the age of 21, he founded the Hattori Watch Shop (now Seiko Holdings Corporation). Initially, the company focused on selling and repairing imported watches. However, Kintaro's goal was to manufacture his own watches. In 1892, he established the Seikosha watch factory and began producing wall clocks. Seikosha subsequently carried out all processes, from parts manufacturing to assembly, in-house, delivering sophisticated, high-quality products to the world. Three years later, he began producing pocket watches, which were in high demand at the time. In 1913, Kintaro foresaw the arrival of the wristwatch era and produced Japan's first domestically produced wristwatch. Since then, thanks to Kintaro Hattori's foresight and unique management philosophy, the Hattori Watch Shop has laid the foundation for Japan's watch industry.
