Loewe develops denim leather? New collection "Indigo" opens in Shinjuku Isetan limited shop

Jun 4, 2014

LOEWE has opened a pop-up shop showcasing its new 14SS "Indigo Collection" in the handbag/promotion space on the first floor of the main building of the Isetan Shinjuku store. It will be on sale until June 10th.
The concept of this collection is "denim." As a long-established Spanish leather brand, LOEWE does not currently produce fabric bags. However, thanks to the wisdom and craftsmanship of its leather artisans, the brand has created a collection that expresses the brand's first fabric-like texture using embossed leather.
The key item, the "Amazona Indigo" bag, is made by dyeing the leather twice using a special dyeing technique, and then embossing the calf suede to create the texture of denim. The double stitching on the sides, reminiscent of denim pants, and rivets on the corner patches further pursue the denim concept. A tan-colored calf leather label embossed with the Loewe emblem is sewn onto the inside of the bag, evoking the leather patch attached to the back waistband of jeans.

The bag comes in three sizes: the classic "Amazona 36" (¥297,000) that can fit A4 size documents; the compact "Amazona 23" (¥248,000) with a detachable strap; and the large "Amazona 44" (¥349,000), suitable for overnight trips. Two colors are available: dark denim blue, reminiscent of brand new, raw denim, and light denim blue, reminiscent of worn, faded denim.

Indigo is also now available for the "Leo" tote bag. The calfskin is sourced from Catalonia in northern Spain and is vegetable tanned to further enhance the natural color of the leather itself. The perforated Leo (295,000 yen) and the Dunas shoulder bag (314,000 yen) are available in two colors: dark denim blue and Melba.

Scarves, shawls, and leather items in different shades of indigo are also available. The "Animal" series, which features animals carved into a single piece of suede leather (the same material as the bags) through cutting and stitching, will also feature a panda coin case (42,000 yen), making its debut. Other indigo-colored items include a flat pouch (58,000 yen), a double flat pouch (46,000 yen), and sunglasses with indigo leather wrapped around the temples (46,000 yen).
