John Thomas Squire, a musician and painter, was born on November 24, 1962, in the UK. He enjoyed playing guitar and painting as a child, and in 1983 he formed the rock band The Stone Roses with his childhood friend Ian Brown. Their second single, "Sally Cinnamon," was released in 1987 and reached number three on the UK Indie chart. Around this time, Mani joined the band as bassist, completing the core lineup of The Roses. In 1989, The Roses released their first album, The Stone Roses. This album quickly gained the band recognition in the UK, and their single, "Fools Gold," reached number eight on the UK singles chart. As one of the most representative new artists of the year, they became a key figure in UK rock culture. However, after the success of their first album, The Roses' relationship with their label, Silverstone, deteriorated, and they became embroiled in a two-year lawsuit. The transfer was finally approved in 1991, and the band remained on hiatus for a long time afterward. Fans would have to wait a full five years for their second album, "Second Coming." The hard rock sound of "Second Coming" captivated Roses fans across the UK. However, relationships soon began to strain, and Squire left the band in 1996, leading to the dissolution of the Roses. Squire then formed the rock band "The Seahorses" in 1996. Despite releasing the album "Do It Yourself," the band disbanded in 1999. From then on, he focused on his solo career, releasing his first album, "Time Changes Everything," in 2002 and his second, "Marshall's House," in 2004. Squire then left the music industry and began his career as an artist, based in Manchester. After exhibiting his work at the Institute of Modern Art in London in 2004, he has since held solo exhibitions around the world. In 2009, he held his first solo exhibition in Japan, "Negative Afterimage," where he presented paintings and drawings.
Incidentally, The Stone Roses long-awaitedly reunited in 2011. Squire was also a member of the band, and this was shown in the 2013 documentary film "The Stone Roses: Made of Stone."
