A solo exhibition by artist Noritaka Tatehana will be held at the art gallery on the 8th floor of Shibuya Hikarie. The exhibition will run from December 17th to January 12th.
Noritaka Tatehana, a designer who graduated from Tokyo University of the Arts and rose to prominence after becoming Lady Gaga's exclusive shoemaker, created platform shoes inspired by the high geta sandals worn by courtesans. These shoes later came to be known as "heelless shoes" and became a signature piece for his brand, "NORITAKA TATEHANA." Recently, he has been presenting a wide range of artistic works, including participating in the "Image Makers" exhibition in 2014, which brought together fantastical and innovative works by internationally active creators.
This exhibition will bring together Noritaka Tatehana's works from the collections of various museums around the world, including the Fashion Institute of Technology Museum of Art, New York, where Valerie Steele serves as director, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Victoria & Albert Museum, and the Kyoto Costume Institute. More than a dozen of Tatehana's works will be on display, including heelless shoes and objects with a hairpin motif.
