"Leather Forever," an exhibition themed on the bond between Hermès and leather, will be held at the Hyokeikan Museum of Tokyo from December 2nd until the 23rd.
This exhibition traces the history of leather at Hermès, which began as a saddlery workshop. By tracing the history of bags and objects over the years, visitors can get a glimpse of the artisans' pursuit of manufacturing.
At the venue, artisans from the atelier will be demonstrating how to make bags. They will show off the various techniques involved in bag production, from cutting to sewing and stitching. In addition, a special bag collection will be on display to commemorate the opening of the exhibition. Prior to the event, Hermès Artistic Director Pierre-Alexis Dumas commented, "I sometimes picture my ancestor Thierry Hermès in his Paris atelier in 1837, the first year of the brand's founding, his eyes shining as he inhaled and touched the scent of leather used for saddlery. That scent still excites me today."
