Ginza Six, the largest commercial facility in the Ginza area, which will open on April 20th, has announced the launch of an art program in collaboration with artists and creators. Under the supervision of the Mori Art Museum, the large atrium located in the center of the facility (the building's second-floor central atrium) will exhibit "Pumpkin," a new installation by Yayoi Kusama, an avant-garde artist active in the global art scene, for a limited time from April 20th to February 25th, 2018. Additionally, from April 20th to May 16th, a pop-up store, "YAYOI KUSAMA POP UP STORE 'My Eternal Soul'," will be held in the building's fourth-floor event space. It will offer merchandise featuring her signature motifs, such as polka dots and pumpkins, as well as limited edition merchandise, stationery, bags, T-shirts, accessories, tableware, and sweets. The museum will also feature a permanent exhibition of works by prominent artists active both in Japan and abroad, supervised by the Mori Art Museum. Shinji Ohmaki will present "Echos Infinity -Immortal Flowers-," a sculpture based on an Edo Komon pattern and a symbol of aesthetic sensibilities; Misa Funai will present "Paradise/Boundary," a work themed on "paradise and boundaries" that treats the entire space as a canvas, constructing and painting using mirrors to create a vision where pictorial space and reality intersect; and Yumi Domoto will create new works specifically for the museum, titled "Tami B.", "Tami Y.", and "Tami R.", which convey the expansive depth of a vast space. Additionally, two paired artworks, produced by Junji Tanigawa of JTQ, will be exhibited on two approximately 12-meter-high walls in the museum. One is a digital installation by teamLab, and the other is an artwork by Patrick Blanc that weaves together endemic Japanese plants.
In addition, masterpieces designed by world-renowned artist Hiroshi Sugimoto will be on display in LOUNGE SIX, a special lounge for VIP customers.
