On February 21st, Isa Arfen presented her Fall/Winter 2017-18 collection in a presentation format. Founded in 2011 by designer Serafina Sama, the London-based brand initially launched with a small collection of summer dresses sold through private sales. Based on an eclectic blend of traditional and modern styles, the glamorous and wearable collection has expanded with each passing season. The keywords that came to mind when creating this season's collection were "identity and disguise, different faces and masks," and the designer focused on our own attempts to enhance ourselves through clothing, makeup, and hair. While this may seem like a way to express individuality, it actually ends up assimilating into the crowd. The collection showcased sweetness with girly cuts and ruffles, while masculine pants were introduced, referencing the herringbone pattern often used in men's suit fabrics. The collection's design was full of unexpected elements, including asymmetrical and cropped tailored jackets, silk pants in different colors, and pants paired with romantic tulle dresses. Flats created in collaboration with Charlotte Olympia adorned every look. The diamond print by London-based print designer Helen Bullock, which appeared toward the end of the show, is considered in the West to be the costume of a mythical clown. It's cunning, disruptive, yet always popular. The vivid colors drew attention, metaphorically expressing the collection's theme. The presentation venue was packed with fashion insiders, a testament to the brand's high profile. Seeing it after understanding Isa Affen's collection concept, it was oddly humorous, even for myself, dressed up in it.
