On February 19th, J.W. Anderson presented its Fall/Winter 2017-18 women's collection in London. It was the highlight of London Fashion Week and a leading brand in the industry. While the brand's appeal lies in its complexity and uniqueness, this season's creations were further refined through unexpected combinations of even more complex designs.

The first look featured a gathered black balloon dress with a neckpiece pocket, paired with pointed-toe boots. The chest and back were boldly exposed. The same silhouette also featured a striped dress, but layered with a floral top and sneakers, creating a completely different atmosphere. The random combinations continued, with a leather jacket striped except for the sleeves and shoulders, paired with a skirt featuring freely dancing ostrich feathers, and a floral print and metallic dress paired with a shearling jacket. The combination of various materials, layers, and silhouettes was disruptive yet unnatural, creating beautiful contrasts. The look, featuring a long black dress with a white pleated bib, evoked the image of a nun. Other inspirations, such as Chinese dresses, kung fu costumes, and the attire of Greek goddesses, are unclear, but the collection clearly drew inspiration from a variety of sources. The collection's unpredictable design, skillful cutting that suddenly revealed women's skin, and gracefully swaying drapes, were striking, showcasing a unique style that only J.W. Anderson can produce. While the designs were unexpected, distorted and disrupted, it's also noteworthy that they were wearable. Skirts whose lengths could be adjusted by changing buttons and pockets added to various looks emphasized the collection's spontaneous and practical elements. Rather than having a central theme, each look seemed to have its own meaning. The intricate overall picture made it all the more captivating. J.W. Anderson's appeal lies in the fact that his high-level creations stand out, but he draws people in at just the right distance without alienating them.
