On March 4th, Junya Watanabe's JUNYA WATANABE COMME des GARÇONS held its Fall/Winter 2017-18 collection show at the University of Pharmacy near the Luxembourg Gardens. Models clad in tartan and sporting colorful hair appeared on stage to the sound of T. Rex. Aiming to "combine unconventional shapes with fashionable items," the collection skillfully combined mismatched fabrics, including furniture materials, Rococo jacquard, and brushed leopard print. The purple and red leopard prints in particular exuded a punkish image. While each piece exuded a unique volume, rather than using bonded materials, the collection created a sense of tension by appliquéd elements of different materials onto a base material. For three-dimensional, geometric items, panels were sewn together at key points on the back to maintain their form, making them even more elaborate.
The final look featured a white shirt with a Union Jack chair design, a collaboration with London furniture designer Jimmie Martin. It seems that London, furniture, and music were the image sources for this season.
