The COMME des GARÇONS HOMME PLUS Fall/Winter 2017-18 collection show was held in the Hotel Westin Ballroom, a venue that has hosted numerous haute couture shows. The collection, titled "Boyhood," embodies Rei Kawakubo's desire to "remind people of even a little of the good times in this world of sorrow." Elements evoking childhood, such as clay mold-like parts, pop prints, and whipped cream-like 3D motifs, were scattered throughout the collection. Jacket and baggy pants sets were paired with a sharply cut shirt and vest underneath, representing both the present (the unpleasant present) and the past (the good times of childhood). A glitter jacket with a cut-out backside was also featured. Each piece exuded a duality, with a double-layered body and a jacket that appeared to be two jackets joined together.
Rubber parts resembling clay molds, shaped like dinosaurs, cars, locomotives and more, adorned the hems of shirts, lace-up shoes and jackets. Jackets with particularly large parts attached to the back left a strong impact.
Collaborations with artists, such as the pop prints by Candida Alvarez and the silicone resin motifs by Scott Hove that adorned the back of jackets, also evoked a darker side to the collection, adding an accent to the collection, rather than just being fun.
