Rei Kawakubo's COMME des GARÇON SHIRT held its Fall/Winter 2017-18 collection show at its Place Vendôme showroom. The show kicked off with a series of pieces featuring faces made with piping, appliqué, and embroidery. The humorous and naive atmosphere echoed the COMME des GARÇONS HOMME PLUS collection shown the previous day. A knit pullover featuring a face drawn in jacquard also appeared midway through the show. A series of shirts featuring a pop watercolor-style print that at first glance resembled camouflage were paired with pinstripes, and some featured wallpaper-like floral prints on the sleeves. A series of shirts with different lengths on the front and back offered a streetwear-inspired interpretation, with some featuring a double front and others serving as T-shirts.
Shirts appliquéd with surfboard-like motifs evoked a somewhat hedonistic image. Patchwork shirts made from a variety of materials, including paisley and flannel, were coordinated with graphic, pop jacquard cardigans. The COMME des GARÇON SHIRT BOY section featured oversized patchwork shirts, color-blocked knit pullovers, and baseball shirts, evoking an even more youthful feel. Pea coats, duffle coats, and padded parkas were also oversized, with a striking A-line, rounded silhouette.
