On March 4th, Guillaume Henry's Nina Ricci women's collection for Fall/Winter 2017-18 was held at the Grand Palais in Paris. The collection featured a color palette inspired by American Western style and the paintings of Marie Laurencin. Guillaume Henry's signature oversized coats were paired with wrap-collar blouses, and Victorian-inspired gigot-sleeved jackets with scalloped hems were paired with knickerbocker-style pants, creating a girly charm. However, there were also pieces that were the polar opposite of girly, such as skirts with cutouts at the hips and lace bras, which emphasized sexiness. Rodeo-print star-patterned patchwork skirts and Western shirt dresses were iconic pieces of the season. The trendy corduroy trench coat features leather shoulders and collars reminiscent of a horse saddle, while the jacket is also decorated with leather appliqués for a Western feel.
The second half of the collection consisted of grayish blue and pink items reminiscent of Marie Laurencin's paintings. Featured were dresses with clown-style pleated collars and prints reminiscent of Marie Laurencin's paintings, skirts embroidered with all-over sequins, and dresses adorned with fringe. The collection was a perfect fusion of Guillaume Henry's coquettish style and Nina Ricci's inherent elegance.
