Andreas Kronthaler for Vivienne Westwood presented its Fall/Winter 2017-18 collection on March 4th in the ballroom of the InterContinental Hotel. Vivienne Westwood herself walked the catwalk, creating a frenzy of excitement. This season's collection was inspired by the 100th anniversary of Viennese Modernism, a Klimt reproduction that hung in her parents' room, and vintage Tyrolean-style children's clothing by Wiener Werkstatten (Vienna Werkstätte, 1908-1932). The collection also reflected the period of global peace following World War I. The collection featured a chaotic and diverse range of motifs, including a blouson adorned with flowers reminiscent of Tyrolean ribbon, a small floral and striped print dress, and a dress with an oriental floral motif. However, the silhouettes were generally oversized, with jackets in particular having large shoulder sagging and some jackets being so long that they could not be seen from the arms.
This time, she was particularly conscious of her Austrian nationality, and at the end of the distributed press materials it was written that she "pays homage to the Vienna Workshop," but the Austrian influence was not strong, and ultimately the collection had a strong Vivienne Westwood feel.
