Van Cleef & Arpels New York Fifth Avenue boutique to be renovated in December. Designed by Juan Manck Studio.

Nov 20, 2013

Van Cleef & Arpels' New York Fifth Avenue boutique will reopen in December after a major renovation.

Jouin Manku Studio, a team of designer Patrick Jouin and architect Sanjit Manku, was in charge of the design, following the 2007 Place Vendôme and 2011 Hong Kong landmark Prince Hotel boutiques. Inspired by Art Deco architecture, geometric motifs and vertical lines are the décor. The furnishings are also original.

The boutique spans three floors and covers an area of 515.7 square meters. The ground floor features a circular table covered by a tall transparent dome where the brand's artworks are displayed, above which a chandelier measuring approximately 1.2 meters in diameter is placed. The mezzanine level has been significantly expanded to include a VIP space and the Alfred & Estelle Bridal Salon, named after the founding couple. A private room on the top floor overlooking New York City features a chandelier made of 720 glass pieces. The interior is made of gold-colored fabric embroidered with a fern pattern. The exterior features five windows and overlapping brass panels above the entrance, creating a geometric design.

Van Cleef & Arpels had been popular among American high society since the 1930s, and unveiled its "Parisian Style" of specially designed and elaborate jewelry at the French Pavilion at the 1939 World's Fair in New York. Although the brand already had a presence in Rockefeller Center, the success of the fair led to the opening of a boutique at 744 Fifth Avenue in 1942.
