Heisuke Kitazawa, designer of Kenzo perfume and Ubukata bookbinding, holds his first solo exhibition in Japan

Nov 27, 2013

Daikanyama's Gallery Speak For will be hosting illustrator Heisuke Kitazawa (PCP)'s first solo exhibition in Japan, "And the Light is Distorted," from December 6th to 18th. The exhibition showcases Kitazawa's paintings, which he has been working on for the past 10 years, as well as other works beyond commissioned work. The venue will feature an original piece created specifically for the exhibition by musician Mark Bianchi, formerly of Her Space Holiday, for whom Kitazawa previously created CD artwork. The exhibition will feature 26 works from Kitazawa's new pen and colored ink series, which explore the power of light, as well as various watercolors, giclee works, and a "Pop-Up Box" sculpture (collaborated with Sanrio's Yasutomo Shingo). Related items, such as tote bags and books, will also be available. A gallery talk featuring the artist himself will be held on December 7th at 2:00 PM, where he will discuss his work. The interviewer will be Wakabayashi Megumi, editor-in-chief of WIRED.
Kitazawa's work is characterized by a unique illustration style that makes use of dreamy neutral tones. He has also worked on packaging for Kenzo Parfums. He has also created cover illustrations for many well-known authors. He is also known for his cover illustrations for Ubukata Tow's Hana to Yume (Hana to Yume) (Kadokawa Shoten) and the 2012 Bessatsu Bungeishunju magazine.
