"Tokyo Curiosity 2020 Shibuya," an exhibition showcasing the curiosity of 100 photographers, will be held at Bunkamura

Event Date:2020.10.20-11.12
Oct 20, 2020
"Tokyo Curiosity 2020 Shibuya," an exhibition featuring 100 photographers from Japan and abroad, opens tomorrow at Bunkamura The Museum (Shibuya, Tokyo).

"Tokyo Curiosity 2018-2020" is a project launched in 2018 by the NPO Tokyo-Ga, an organization formed with the idea of "What can we do for society through the medium of photography?" An exhibition was held in Paris in the fall of 2018 as a special feature of "Japonismes 2018," followed by an exhibition and symposium in Berlin in the spring of 2019 as part of the commemorative projects for the 25th anniversary of the Tokyo-Berlin friendship city relationship. Now, the culmination of these efforts will finally begin in Shibuya.

Ahead of the opening, a press preview was held on October 19th. Ota Nahoko, founder of the NPO Tokyo Ga and curator of the exhibition, spoke passionately about her thoughts on the exhibition:
"The 100 photographers participating from 16 countries and regions not only differ in nationality, but also in age, gender, and career history as photographers. However, the world captured through their eyes also captures the past, present, and future that we must now reexamine.

The works in this exhibition unravel the many truths we become aware of when we face the reality before our eyes using four keywords: 'IDENTITY' (speaking of oneself), 'DIVERSITY' (interpreting others), 'HERE AND NOW' (living here, now), and 'TIMELESSNESS' (value that transcends time). Each work contains a message that will resonate in the hearts of viewers as a 'firm memory.'

Stand in front of the photographs with your ears open and your heart wide open. The photographs are sure to awaken your curiosity and give you a sense of hope for the future."

John Kabira, Chris Tomoko, Harry Sugiyama and Marie will be in charge of audio navigating!!

The four radio presenters on J-WAVE (81.3FM) will be in charge of audio navigating the exhibition: John Kabira (host of "JK RADIO TOKYO UNITED" every Friday from 6:00am to 11:30am), Chris Tomoko (host of "GOOD NEIGHBORS" every Monday to Thursday from 1:00pm to 4:30pm), Harry Sugiyama (host of "POP OF THE WORLD" every Saturday from 6:00am to 8:00am) and Marie (host of "SEASONS" every Saturday from 12:00pm to 3:00pm).

This audio navigation is a little different from traditional exhibition audio guides. Four J-WAVE presenters will select works from the exhibits based on their own perspectives and talk in their own words about what attracted them to the work and what thoughts they had about it. We hope you will enjoy it.

The audio navigation is available in both Japanese and English. To use it, download the smartphone app "33tab" (=Mimi Tab) and bring your smartphone and earphones to enjoy it for free.
