Limited release of collaborative digital art at Loro Piana's new Ginza flagship store

Event Date:2020.10.16-10.25

A digital art installation event featuring a London artist is being held until October 25th to commemorate the opening of the Loro Piana Ginza store, which relocated from Ginza Namiki-dori to a new location next to the App Store on Chuo-dori in June this year.

The building, which opened after around two years of preparation, was designed by Japanese architect Jun Aoki, and the facade is Kummel (Caraway), the brand's color, with a motif inspired by scarves.

This installation features three works on the fourth floor, which is normally used as a VIP floor for customer service. Titled "An Odyssey of Touch," each piece "is a journey through Japan, showcasing the simple yet beautiful nature that Japan is so proud of. It echoes Loro Piana's respect for the nature that produces its finest fibers. At the same time, it also expresses an artificial, futuristic interpretation of the city of Tokyo," said Weirdcore, the artist behind the installations.

Weirdcore is known for creating visual effects for Aphex Twin's live performances and has also worked on music videos for Japanese bands such as Young Juvenile Youth. The exhibit features "NATURE," a CG piece themed around lotus flowers floating on the water; "Infinite Connection," a three-dimensional piece in which raw cashmere goat wool changes color with LED lights and appears to emerge within a mirrored tetrahedron; and "Cloud City," a trompe l'oeil-style CG piece featuring cashmere clouds hanging over an urban Tokyo landscape. All were created specifically for the event, and the music combines the sounds of Ryuichi Sakamoto with the sounds of nature. Art frames and other items are crafted from Loro Piana's signature cashmere fabric, creating an exhibition that not only engages the senses of sight and sound, but also focuses on the brand's signature sense of excellence and the theme of this project, "touch."
