The inspiration for "Archives" was a model released in 1996, the year after the Paul Smith watch line was launched in 1995. The unique colouring techniques that are characteristic of Paul Smith and are not bound by conventional ideas were extremely well received at the time of release. As a new release for Autumn/Winter 2020, marking the brand's 50th anniversary, "Archives" faithfully reproduces the colouring of the dial, based on the theme of returning to the essence of Paul Smith.

The dial, influenced by mid-century color usage, comes in four color variations, creating a distinctive contrast between the base and the small seconds, chronograph, and indexes. The color of the calfskin strap has also been selected to match the dial, and four-color stitching is used as an accent. Meanwhile, the case design has been updated from the gold square shape of the original release to a silver cushion shape for a more modern look.

The back cover is engraved with the brand's first logo, designed in 1970. The original Art Deco logo was inspired by the design of an antique cigarette case that was used as a cash register at the first shop that Paul Smith opened, and the engraving is a mark of Paul Smith's 50th anniversary.
