The winner of the H&M Design Award 2017 was announced on the 16th. The recipient was 26-year-old Richard Quinn from the UK.
The awards are open to students and alumni from some of the world's leading fashion and design colleges. Emerging designers from around the world competed to create collections. Quinn, a Central Saint Martins graduate, is the second men's designer to win the award, following Simon Lee in 2015.
Quinn's creative design was environmentally conscious. Ann-Sofie Johansson, creative advisor at H&M and a member of the judging panel, commented, "We all fell in love with Richard. He has a clear vision for his brand and a surprising element to it. Richard is a truly creative person, and his compassionate perspective on the environment makes him a worthy winner of the H&M Design Award 2017." Imran Ahmed, Editor-in-Chief of Business of Fashion, commented, "Richard Quinn has created something truly remarkable. There is a great depth of creativity combined with a variety of ideas, and the commercial viability and sustainability perspective are valuable assets in building his brand."
Quinn's grand prize is €50,000, a one-year mentoring program with H&M, and the opportunity to sell items based on his winning collection in H&M stores worldwide in autumn 2017.
