Ryohin Keikaku Co., Ltd., the operator of MUJI, will be selling three types of cloth masks made from recycled organic cotton*1 leftover fabric from the production of autumn and winter clothing at MUJI stores nationwide from mid-October.

With the spread of COVID-19, masks have become a necessity in everyday life. Because they are used every day, they need to make efficient use of resources and be soft to the touch. Instead of disposable masks that become garbage, they need masks that can be washed by hand and reused. We have produced reusable masks by recycling leftover organic cotton fabric from the production of MUJI clothing. Starting in mid-October, MUJI stores nationwide will begin selling three types of autumn material masks featuring antibacterial and deodorizing treatment on the entire surface: "Reusable 2-Pack Mask (Fleece)," "Reusable 2-Pack Mask (Flannel)," and "Reusable 2-Pack Mask (Corduroy)." These autumn material masks are made from recycled organic cotton leftovers from the production of MUJI's fall/winter hoodies, shirts, and bottoms. They can be reused approximately 30 times by hand washing (approximately 60 times for the fleece type)*2. The "Reusable 2-Pack 3-Layer Mask," available on the MUJI online store and in stores since May 2020, and the three types of "Summer Material Masks" released in June have been well-received, with approximately 3.5 million masks already sold. The "Reusable 2-Pack 3-Layer Mask," featuring an antibacterial and deodorizing treatment on the outer surface to prevent droplets, can be washed and reused, eliminating the need to discard them after each use.
