The moment Disney animation "came to life": An art exhibition showcasing approximately 450 original drawings and sketches

Nov 29, 2016

"Disney Art: The Magic of Breathing Life," an exhibition unravelling the history of Disney animation, will be held from April 8 to September 24, 2017, in the special exhibition zone on the first floor of the Miraikan (National Museum of Emerging Science and Innovation) in Koto Ward, Tokyo.
Disney Animation has always breathed life into the sketches that sparked the imaginations of its creators, using the latest technology of the time. The exhibition, titled "The Magic of Breathing Life," will display approximately 450 original drawings, sketches, and concept art from Disney animation works released to date. From "Steamboat Willie," which introduced Mickey Mouse, to early works such as "Snow White" and "Dumbo," to "Frozen" and "Zootopia," and the latest film, "Moana," scheduled for release in Japan in March 2017, the exhibition will unravel the nearly century-long history of Disney animation.
It is extremely rare for Disney to publicly display its historically valuable hand-drawn original drawings and sketches, and most of the exhibited materials will be shown in Japan for the first time. This is a rare opportunity to witness the moment when many Disney works are brought to life.
