Mame Kurogouchi's Spring/Summer 2026 collection, unveiled at Paris Fashion Week, was themed around "Reflection," and saw designer Maiko Kurogouchi revisit her childhood landscapes. Vague, ephemeral scenes, such as the mountain ranges of Nagano she saw as a child and the light streaming through the windows of her grandmother's house, overlap with the aesthetics of Japanese glass, a style unique to Japan that flourished from the Edo to Taisho periods. Transparency, fluctuation, ephemerality, and stillness—these elements blend into the fabrics and envelop the entire collection.

Textures of Transparency and Light
This collection is centered around sheer materials. The transparency, brilliance, and lightness reminiscent of ice and glass are freely expressed. A tailored set made from delicate yarn that evokes the majesty of frost-covered trees, a sheer jacquard dress inspired by Showa-era patterned glass, and a jacquard knit with an ivy pattern that is shrouded in light. All of the pieces reflect a unique sensibility that connects Japanese and Western styles, crystallizing fleeting scenes such as ice, flowing water, and flickering light within the fabric.

The Intersection of Nostalgia and Innovation
Evoking the colors of memory, the pastel tones of the Nagano morning glow are layered with the pale blues and milky whites unique to Japanese glass. The triple-woven jacket and skirt, dyed aurora blue in a Kyoto workshop, are adorned with 3D printed decorations by Stratasys, giving the impression of visualizing the minute particles of memory. The juxtaposition of traditional techniques and cutting-edge technology creates a dialogue between nostalgia and innovation.

The Ephemerality of Accessories
The accessories also embrace themes of ambiguity and transparency. Pieces such as string-of-flower earrings, 3D-embroidered belts, sheer boots, and floral-motif sandals reflect the fragility of frozen petals and melting icicles. As if wearing hazy memories, a delicate nostalgia takes shape and lives in the present.
