Acne Studios opens new Paris headquarters in a renovated historic laboratory, a creative hub where architecture and art resonate

Sep 12, 2025
Acne Studios has opened a new headquarters in the historic Gomenor Laboratory, a renovated building on Rue du Petite Eculie in Paris's 10th arrondissement. The project, undertaken by creative director Jonny Johansson and Swedish design studio Halleroed, respects the majestic 1930s architecture while incorporating contemporary art and design. The project transforms the building into a creative hub for the fashion brand, while preserving the city's memory for the future.

A Dialogue Between the Original Beauty of Architecture and Modernity
Johansson approached the renovation as "an ode to the original beauty of architecture," opting to make minimal intervention in the existing structure. Historic details such as gold leaf moldings and parquet floors have been meticulously restored, complemented by sculptures by Daniel Silver, furniture by Lukas Gschwandtner, and candlesticks by nail artist Sylvie MacMillan. The space has been reborn as a place where the memory of the 1930s research facility resonates with modern creativity.

A showroom that stands out in the brand's colors
The renovated showroom retained its vaulted glass ceiling and exposed concrete columns, creating a theatrical space that makes the most of the building's natural beauty. Placed there is a giant sofa designed by Max Lamb in the brand's signature pink. Acne Studios' preferred color, pink, is not merely decorative but a signal of the brand's identity, and its contrast with the white walls creates a striking presence. The color itself becomes an element of the space, blurring the line between fashion and architecture.

A space that supports creativity
The VIP fitting rooms feature custom seating inspired by the designs of past shows, transforming private fittings into a theatrical experience. The light-filled cafeteria retains the atmosphere of the studio's days, featuring a stainless steel kitchen and large blond wood tables, elevating it beyond everyday dining to a place for cultural dialogue. Furthermore, benches designed by Lam are placed in the sunken garden, allowing time to flow softly with natural light. Custom lighting by Benoît Larose distributes soft light throughout the building, quietly supporting the creativity of the people working there.

A headquarters that comes to life with art
The building is home to works by artists who have collaborated with the brand in the past, including Jonathan Lyndon Chase, William Wegman, and Jeremy Deller. These are not merely decorative pieces; they recreate the creative path of Acne Studios as a "permanent exhibition." This environment, where people can be inspired by art without leaving the office, elevates the headquarters to a kind of contemporary art museum.

A base where history and the future intersect
This architecture, which Johansson calls "a dialogue between past and present," is more than just an office for Acne Studios. The choice of a historic building in the heart of the international cultural city of Paris as its headquarters demonstrates the brand's commitment to viewing the city itself as an integral part of the brand. As a fashion house clad in architecture, it can be said that the brand has established a base from which to create expressions of the future. This is where a new story begins, where fashion, architecture, and art resonate with each other.
