Japan's first official Andy Warhol cafe opens in Roppongi Hills for a limited time

Mar 2, 2014

As part of the "Andy Warhol: 15 Minutes Eternal" exhibition currently being held at the Mori Art Museum, the Roppongi Hills observation deck, "Tokyo City View," has opened Japan's first official Andy Warhol cafe, "Andy Warhol Cafe," in the observation gallery's "Mad Lounge Spice." It will be open until May 6th.

During this period, the cafe's interior will be specially decorated with Warhol-themed designs. Covered entirely in artificial turf, the space is decorated with motifs inspired by Warhol's signature works, such as "Cow Wallpaper [Yellow and Pink]" and "Flowers."

In addition to the regular menu, the cafe will offer limited-edition original menu items and sweets inspired by Warhol's signature works, including "Campbell's Soup Cans," "Hamburgers," "Bananas," and Warhol's self-portraits.

In addition, the cafe is adjacent to the legendary masterpiece "Rain Machine." This work was born from an attempt to combine art and cutting-edge technology, and is an installation in which artificial rain falls in front of a wall of 3D processed photographs of daisies arranged in a grid pattern. The version unveiled at the Osaka Expo was discarded due to deterioration, and this is a newly created, improved version.
