Limited-time Capybara Cafe opens in Daikanyama, selling cute cookies and collaborative goods

Feb 18, 2014

Bandai will open a limited-time cafe, "Kyururun Cafe meets Sign," in Daikanyama, Tokyo, from March 8th to April 6th, where customers can experience the world of the character "Kapibara-san." The cafe will collaborate with the popular cafe "Sign" (1F, Daikanyama Station Building, 19-4 Daikanyama-cho, Shibuya-ku, Tokyo) to produce the store, with the cafe providing the space and food and beverages. The interior and exterior of the store will be decorated with newly designed "Kyururun Cookies" cookies with a cookie motif and capybara-san plush toys, creating a "relaxed and soothing" atmosphere. In addition to serving cappuccinos and other capybara-themed drinks, the cafe will also sell Kyururun Cookies icing cookies (¥450 each) and collaboration cafe-exclusive merchandise (starting at ¥150).

In 2012, Bandai established the "Fancy Goods Team" within its Girls' Toy Division, which plans, develops, and sells products for girls, and is currently strengthening its development of fancy characters for women of all ages who love "cuteness." In addition to Capybara-san, which was created in 2005 and is developed mainly as a four-panel comic and miscellaneous goods, the team is also in charge of "Sore tte, Kuchibachi," which features Kuchibachi, a character from the handheld raising game Tamagotchi, as the main character, and Ojipan, an old man-style panda released by stationery manufacturer Coolia in 2012 and promoted by Bandai.
