Bioderma launches Japanese subsidiary, with cleansing products selling one every three seconds at its core

Mar 17, 2014

French skincare brand BIODERMA established its Japanese subsidiary, BIODERMA JAPON Co., Ltd., in October last year. The company held a commemorative party on March 10th.
Based in Lyon, France, the company's skincare products are currently available in approximately 80 countries around the world. They arrived in Japan in 2002 and are sold in general stores nationwide.
Dermatology researchers and biochemists continue their research at three laboratories in France, and the company holds more than 50 international patents. In 1995, the company developed "H2O," the first product to apply micellar solution technology to cleansing, and released the no-rinse cleansing water in 2002. The cleansing water, "Sensibio H2O," has now become synonymous with the brand. This dermatologist-prescribed skincare product is known worldwide for selling one bottle every three seconds. François Combes, CEO of Bioderma Japon, spoke of his enthusiasm for the future of the business, saying, "The secret to Bioderma's success in Japan is the high quality of our products and our commitment to proposing products that are suited to Japanese women's skin. With the establishment of our Japanese subsidiary, there's no doubt that Japan will become an even more important market in the future. We're also considering developing original Japanese products tailored to the climate and needs of Japanese women. We hope to reach sales of millions of yen in the near future. We're also considering a promotional strategy that will highlight Bioderma's unique research and development approach and express our worldview of 'beauty' through advertising campaigns featuring artists." At the party, the entertainment unit "enra," which combines video and live performance, performed. The special stage, which synchronized video featuring Bioderma's colorful product packaging with the actions of performers, drew applause from the audience.
