Onitsuka Tiger x Andrea Pompilio launch their first women's line

Mar 5, 2014

Now in its third season, Onitsuka Tiger and up-and-coming Italian designer Andrea Pompilio have collaborated for a collection that launches their first women's line in Spring/Summer 2014. The collection is now available at Re-Style Sports on the third floor of the Isetan Shinjuku Main Building. This season's theme is "Los Angeles Underground." Inspired by hip-hop and rap, the collection features the designer's original geometric prints and pop colors like blue and yellow. The graphics, evoking spray art and tattoos, were inspired by the musicians, artists, and breakdancers active in the Los Angeles underground that the designer encountered. Regarding the first women's line, Andrea explains, "It may look unisex, but we focused on the shapes and elements to create a feminine feel, such as incorporating roses into the graphics." Born in Pesaro, Italy in 1973, Andrea grew up in an environment where his father was an architect, his mother a painter, and his grandfather a boutique owner. After studying fashion in Pesaro and Milan, he worked on designs for Alessandro dell'Acqua, Prada, and Yves Saint Laurent, among others, and presented his own collection in the 2011 Autumn/Winter season. In June of the same year, he won the Grand Prize for New Designers at Pitti Uomo, the world's largest men's fashion trade fair. In 2013, he was selected as an emerging designer supported by Giorgio Armani, and has been attracting attention ever since.
