The first major exhibition since the death of Leiji Matsumoto, creator of numerous masterpieces such as "Galaxy Express 999" and "Space Pirate Captain Harlock," will be held at Tokyo City View on the 52nd floor of Roppongi Hills Mori Tower in Tokyo from June 20 to September 7, 2025.

The exhibition will feature over 300 original drawings, including early works, materials being shown for the first time, and precious mementos. This exhibition explores the skills and power of Leiji Matsumoto as an artist, who has continued to express his unique worldview in the two fields of manga and anime, and the messages he has entrusted to the future through his creative activities spanning more than 70 years.
This exhibition is made up of three zones that trace Leiji Matsumoto's creative journey. At the entrance, visitors are greeted by a station platform that appears in Galaxy Express 999 and a monument to the Galaxy Express 999. Just as Tetsuro Hoshino and Maetel set out on a journey with dreams in their hearts, Leiji Matsumoto's creative journey begins here.

ZONE 1 Marking Steps_Reiji Meter
Leiji Matsumoto's creative journey began with "Exploring the World of Insects" (1952), a work he created when he was 14 years old and aspired to be a manga artist in Kokura, Kitakyushu. The exhibition features original drawings from Matsumoto Leiji's early shojo manga, which marked his first steps as a manga artist, as well as Oidon (1971), which depicts the importance of individuality based on his experience of living in extreme poverty. The exhibits are modeled after the timekeeping on the "Reiji Meter," a gauge that Matsumoto likes to depict in his works.
