3.1 Phillip Lim has opened a six-month limited-time pop-up store, 3.1 Phillip Lim MICROCOSM, in Center Park on the third floor of the main building of Isetan Shinjuku.
Under the theme of "MICROCOSM," the store will be divided into five parts during the period, showcasing the values shared by all of the brand's collections and presenting the worldview of designer Philippe.
The first part's concept is "Elemental." The 2014 Spring/Summer collection, which expresses the elements of nature (earth, water, fire, and air), will be introduced nationwide ahead of the rest of the year. The latest collection features a lineup that is more mature than last season, combining chic and pastel tones, centered around prints featuring motifs inspired by landscapes and mountain ranges. To celebrate the opening, the store launched a limited-edition "TOKYO LOVE" series, a message of love for Japan from designer Lim, a Japanophile. This series proved to be the most popular item from the opening day. The limited-edition lineup includes T-shirts (¥15,750), tank tops (¥12,600), and tote bags (¥8,925), available in three colors (white, black, and red). The shop's interior was designed by Jo Nagasaka of Schemata Architects. Nagasaka, who visited the store on the opening day, explained, "Based on the season's theme of "microcosm," my first priority was how to express Phillip Lim's worldview through the space. Mirrors were used as the base for the decorations, expressing the idea that two worlds, which appear two-dimensional from the outside, overlap when reflected in the mirror. The display will be changed five times during the opening period, but the mirrors will remain in use and the decorations will be changed to match the theme."
The venue is also equipped with four "directional speakers" that use ultrasound to allow sound to be heard only in targeted locations, and when you stand under each speaker, a unique mechanism plays the sounds of natural elements: earth (the sound of walking on sand), water (the sound of flowing water), fire (the sound of burning fire), and air (the sound of blowing wind).
The first wave will run until April 15th. After that, new limited edition products, collaborations, and events are planned with changing themes.
