Nestlé Japan announced that three food service companies will be selling original menu items using the "KitKat Mini Baked Pudding Flavor" (hereafter referred to as "Baked Pudding Flavor"), which began selling in supermarkets nationwide on March 24. The "Baked Pudding Flavor" is the first KitKat product to promote the "baking" element. When it was sold at the world's first KitKat specialty store, "KitKat Chocolatory," which opened on the basement floor of Seibu Ikebukuro Main Store in January of this year, it proved so popular that it sold out within an hour every day, earning it the nickname "the legendary baked KitKat." Yasumasa Takagi, owner and chef of "Le Patissier Takagi," who oversees the store and has been involved in KitKat development for the past 10 years, discovered that baking KitKat in the oven changes its texture and flavor, creating a new, delicious experience while developing new menu items. Inspired by Takagi's desire to offer this "baked KitKat" to as many people as possible, the company decided to commercialize it for general household use.
A total of three companies will be releasing original menu items using this baked Kit Kat. WIRED CAFE, run by Cafe Company, will sell the "Baked KIT KAT Chara "Melt" Sundae" (650 yen), a new type of pudding à la mode made by scrambling a baked Kit Kat with cheesecake and topping it with strawberries, bananas, granola, and vanilla ice cream.
MORIVA COFFEE, run by Zensho, will offer the "Baked Kit Kat Sundae - Baked and Delicious Pudding Flavor" (340 yen), a sundae made with homemade coffee jelly, anglaise sauce, and soft serve ice cream, topped with a baked Kit Kat. The ice cream is sprinkled with crushed baked Kit Kats. For an additional 100 yen, you can also add a baked Kit Kat.
Strawberry Cones will also be selling it at two of its chain stores. Napoli no Kama will be serving the "Baked Kit Kat and Mango Dolce Pizza" (1,553 yen), a dolce pizza made with Neapolitan dough and topped with Kit Kat pudding flavor, mango, mixed nuts, honey maple, and Gorgonzola sauce. Strawberry Cones will be selling the "Baked Kit Kat and Mango Dessert Pizza" (1,286 yen), a sweet pizza made with the same ingredients and baked on fluffy bread dough. A Nestle representative said, "This is the first time in the world that Kit Kat has adopted the concept of 'delicious when baked.' It was a big hit at Kit Kat Chocolatory, so we hope this collaboration menu will also generate a positive response and help attract customers to each store." Nestle's "Café Nescafe" will also be offering baked Kit Kat sweets during Golden Week.
