KitKat Chocolatory, the world's first specialty store for Nestle's chocolate confectionery KitKat, has opened on the basement floor of Seibu Ikebukuro Main Store.
The store sells "KitKat for adults," which are developed and supervised by Yasumasa Takagi, owner and chef of Le Patissier Takagi, and feature seasonal and special flavors. A Seibu Ikebukuro Main Store exclusive product is KitKat Sublime Bitter (315 yen / limited to 300 per day), which is handcrafted using couverture. It features a high-quality melt-in-your-mouth texture and a bitter taste.
Seibu and Sogo exclusive flavors include "KitKat Chocolatory Special Sakura Green Tea" (420 yen/4 pieces), which uses matcha paste and cherry blossom leaf extract powder, and "KitKat Chocolatory Special Chili" (420 yen/4 pieces), which has roasted chili peppers kneaded into the cream between the wafer layers, giving you a taste of both spiciness and sweetness at the same time.
To commemorate the opening, the first 100 customers each day who spend 4,200 yen or more will receive a free local KitKat, such as "KitKat Zunda Flavor," which is only available in the Tohoku region. The shop also houses an art museum, "Musée de KitKat," where visitors can see exhibits of nostalgic KitKat packaging from the past and view image videos.
