Yoshiko Ikoma and Kohei Nawa propose new fashion that transcends boundaries. Also featuring a talk show with Shinya Kushino

Mar 6, 2014

Fashion journalist Yoshiko Ikoma, featuring contemporary artist Kohei Nawa as guest creator, kicked off her event "OVER THE BORDERS" at The Stage #4 on the fourth floor of the Isetan Shinjuku Main Building. The event runs until the 11th. The fashion presented is inspired by Nawa's signature drawing series, "Direction," in which special ink is dripped onto a tilted canvas, creating lines following gravity. Nawa also oversaw the venue's decoration. The event also collaborated with fashion brand IRIE WASH, offering dresses and shirts made from stretchy, lightly washable material exclusively for the event. Under Ikoma's direction, a collection themed around this season's trendy "black and white" theme was selected. The exhibition will feature traditional accessories and miscellaneous goods, as well as the latest collections from JUNKO SHIMADA and YOHJI YAMAMOTO + NOIR. The lineup includes new products by artist Michiko Takahashi, accessories by g;fifty featuring Iga-kumihimo (braided cords), a designated traditional Japanese craft, decorative pieces by artist Rie Sakamoto featuring lavish Aizu-nuri lacquer and maki-e (lacquerware) lacquer, and the world-renowned Nishijin weaving company Hosoo. A talk show featuring Japanese designers Shinya Kushino and Ikoma will also be held from 6:30 PM on March 7th. The event, titled "Over the Borders: Creating Inspiration through Borders," will explore the future of fashion through the design work of Kyoto-based designer Kushino, who is active both domestically and internationally.
