What is Expedition North Pole ONE?


Expedition North Pole 1 was born as the world's first drifting base for polar scientific research, enabling year-round research in the harsh Arctic. On June 6, 1937, as the first Soviet manned drifting station used for scientific hydrological and geographical research in the polar regions, a polar exploration team consisting of four people - expedition leader Ivan Papanin, meteorologist and geophysicist Yevgeny Fyodorov, radio operator Ernst Krenkel, and hydrobiologist and oceanographer Pyotr Shirshov - began their exploration aboard the drifting ice. The expedition continued for 274 days, traveling a distance of 2,850 kilometers, until February 19, 1938. In recognition of their remarkable achievement, the four-member polar explorer team was awarded the title of Soviet Union's First Lady.
