Kenzo Reminisces about the 90s Club Scene [17SS Men's]

Jul 4, 2016

On June 25th, KENZO, created by Humberto Leon and Carol Lim, held its Spring/Summer 2017 men's and women's resort collection shows at the former market, Carreau du Temple. Reminiscing on '90s club culture, the collection reinterpreted the era's club-kid fashion in a modern and luxurious way. The women's resort 2017 collection, a total of 91 pieces, was also unveiled at the same time. The collection featured casual and sporty pieces designed for easy dancing, set to the background music of house music by Todd Terry, who dominated clubs around the world since the late '80s. T-shirts featured flyer-like graphics along with the names of New York clubs of the time, such as Twilo and Body & Soul, and dancing eye illustrations reminiscent of the late Steve Strange's '80s project, Visage.

In addition to a hooded zip-up blouson with a Post-it pattern and items printed with caricature-style illustrations of ice cream and doves, there were also a number of items made from fil coupe material, a material made of fibers cut into a fringe shape, giving the collection a gorgeous side. The sound wave motif, which evokes the waveform of sound, appeared not only as a print on knitwear but also on the collar of a tailored jacket, giving it a pop impression. The eyelets used on jackets, shorts, etc. also served as an effective accent.

Although the collection was rich in variety and intertwined with various elements, it was firmly brought together through the lens of club culture style.
