TSUTAYA BOOK GARAGE Fukuoka Shime (1-1-1, Tamu, Shime-machi, Kasuya-gun, Fukuoka Prefecture), a complex centered around one of Japan's largest secondhand bookstores, held its grand opening on July 22nd. The design of the approximately 3,000-square-meter facility, including both its exterior and interior, is inspired by a West Coast American garage. The store boasts one of Japan's largest selections of books, boasting approximately 430,000 used books and 120,000 new books, for a total of approximately 550,000 books. In addition to the traditional DVD and CD rentals, sales, and recycling services, the store also offers a wide range of services, from stationery and miscellaneous goods to TSUTAYA's original smartphone, TONE, and even a restaurant. Among the three new restaurants, Shokupan Labo is a new concept opening by fullfull, a popular Fukuoka bakery with its flagship store in Matsuzaki, Higashi Ward, known for its mentaiko french bread. In addition to mentaiko french bread, the store offers a full lineup of various types of bread and sandwiches made on-site. The other three stores are "HONEY COFFEE," a collaboration cafe between Fukuoka's Honey Coffee and TSUTAYA, and "Napoli's," which serves pizzas including Margherita pizzas baked in an authentic stone oven for 350 yen each.
