Jul 28, 2016

Each bookstore will act as a concierge, recommending "must-read books" to FASHION HEADLINE readers. Every Thursday, each branch of the art bookshop "NADiff" will introduce a recommended book. This time, we'll be introducing the Aichi/Nagoya branch, NADiff Aichi (2nd basement floor, Aichi Arts Center, 1-13-2 Higashisakura, Higashi-ku, Nagoya, Aichi Prefecture).

■ "d design travel AICHI"

The travel and culture magazine "d design travel," part of the D&DEPARTMENT PROJECT, founded by design activist Nagaoka Kenmei, has been published since 2009. The editorial team spends two months in each prefecture, independently unearthing "long-lasting designs characteristic of that region" and publishing them as tourist guides. The goal is to eventually cover all 47 prefectures, and the magazine is currently published at a pace of three issues per year (for three locations). This issue, the 19th in the series, is a special edition on Aichi Prefecture. It carefully documents conversations with local people and experiences related to food, clothing, and shelter. It's not only thoughtful for those encountering this information for the first time, but also offers a chance to rediscover familiar objects that locals see every day, often overlooked because they're so familiar. By introducing these objects alongside historical and design information, the book offers a chance to rediscover familiar objects. D&DEPARTMENT PROJECT will be participating in this summer's triennial international art festival, Aichi Triennale 2016, as an exhibiting artist, with the publication "d design trave AICHI." This new endeavor, transcending traditional boundaries of art, is garnering attention. NADiff Aichi will have a special Aichi Triennale section. In addition to featuring the d design travel Aichi issue, back issues are also available.
