Mugler's 2013-14 Fall/Winter collection, unveiled at Paris Fashion Week, was the final collection under Creative Director Nicola Formichetti. This season's muse is a retro-glamorous jet-setter, traveling the world by plane. The collection evokes the contemporary style of women embarking on a new tomorrow as the 1960s approached. Cocoon-shaped tops are paired with pencil skirts and 1950s-inspired trousers, accented with aviator-like headpieces and cutwork reminiscent of airplane portholes. The futuristic, industrial-inspired color palette is dominated by gray, pale orange, white, pale rose, and black, and the fabrics used are cashmere, wool, mink, and patent leather. Evening styles feature elegant, three-dimensional silhouettes. The organic lines of the décolleté and skirt hems blend seamlessly into the drape. A shiny silver satin dress was paired with a neoprene top printed with neon graphics. The earrings, which resemble abstract steel sculptures, were designed by New York-based accessories designer Alexis Bittar.
After the show, when asked about her idea of the Mugler woman, Nicolas said, "I think it's someone who knows themselves and doesn't care what other people think."
