American Eagle is looking for fun-loving people to join them in the "Harlem Shake"

Apr 9, 2013

American Eagle Outfitters, the American casual fashion brand, celebrates its first anniversary in Japan on April 18th by creating an original "Harlem Shake" video as part of its anniversary project. Filming will begin at each store on April 10th, and the brand is now accepting participants from the general public. The only requirements for entry are that you're a fun-loving person and can bring ID. You can participate for free as a performer wearing the brand's clothing and alongside store staff. The Harlem Shake is a 30-second dance video of people dancing wildly to the song "Harlem Shake" by Philadelphia-born DJ Baauer. For the first 15 seconds, one person dances slowly, but as soon as the music changes, everyone in the room starts dancing at once. It became popular in the United States after a single video posted on YouTube, and has since exploded in popularity. The stream of highly original photos, featuring eccentric fashion and unique locations, has been posted one after another, attracting widespread media attention and becoming a global social phenomenon.

Shooting locations will be the LaLaport TOKYO-BAY store on April 10th, the Lazona Kawasaki store on April 12th, the DiverCity Tokyo Plaza store on April 13th, the Omotesando store on April 14th, and the Ikebukuro store on April 15th. Participants must gather in front of each store by 9 PM (8 PM for the LaLaport TOKYO-BAY store only). Filmed videos will be uploaded to YouTube at a later date.

In addition, to commemorate its first anniversary, the brand is also running a discount campaign titled "A-RI-GA-TO JAPAN."
