Jean Cocteau's timeless masterpiece "Orpheus" returns to theaters in a remastered HD version

Apr 13, 2013

The Louvre-DNP Museum Lab, an art space in Nishi-Gotanda, Tokyo, will be screening an HD remaster of "Orphée," a timeless masterpiece by French artist Jean Cocteau. Reservations are required and admission is free.
The Louvre-DNP Museum Lab is hosting a "LAB-CINEMA" event, where visitors can enjoy films in conjunction with exhibitions. This time, "Orphée" was chosen as the film to accompany the "Ancient Greek Masterpieces: Men, Gods, Heroes" exhibition, which runs until September 1st.
This 1950 film is a Cocteau-style adaptation of the Greek myth of Orpheus, depicting the poet Orphée's quest in the underworld. Its cast includes Jean Marais, said to have been Jean's longtime lover, and Maria Casares, a leading French stage actress.

The Louvre-DNP Museum Lab was launched in 2006 as a joint project between the Louvre Museum in Paris and DNP Dai Nippon Printing Co., Ltd. As part of its proposal for a new approach to art, the museum hosts a series of events called "LAB - CINEMA," in which a specially selected film is presented for each exhibition. After the film screening, a special viewing session of the exhibition is held.
