What is the floating sphere of light "teamLab Ball"? This art installation at Tasaki Ginza flagship store

Apr 11, 2013

teamLab, a group of technologists led by Toshiyuki Inoko, will be exhibiting the art installation "TASAKI "balance" EXPERIENCE art by teamLab" on the basement floor of jeweler TASAKI's Ginza flagship store from April 13th to May 19th. Each of the floating teamLabBalls, orbs of light, placed in a mirrored space are reminiscent of pearls or diamonds. The organic sparkle and sound created by the multiple spheres interacting with each other expresses the popular "balance" jewelry collection designed by Thakoon Panichgul. teamLabBalls are interactive interfaces whose light and sound can be changed by the actions of those around them. Each sphere is wirelessly synchronized via P2P (Peer to Peer) to simultaneously change the color of all spheres or change the lighting color within the space. The production team can change the colors remotely, and visitors can also take part in the spatial production by tossing the floating spheres.

teamLab is a creative company founded by the University of Tokyo, made up of specialists in a variety of fields, including programmers, engineers, architects, CG animators, and web designers. Their works "Hyakunen Kaizukan" and "teamLab Hangar" were selected as recommended works by the jury of the Agency for Cultural Affairs' Japan Media Arts Festival. They were in charge of directing the Arashi medley at the 2011 Kohaku Uta Gassen (Red and White Song Battle). They are active both domestically and internationally, having exhibited at art fairs in France, Taiwan, Singapore, and other countries.
