UA becomes first Japanese participant in women's support "Ethical Fashion Initiative"

Apr 17, 2013

UNITED ARROWS is the first Japanese brand and shop to participate in the Ethical Fashion Initiative project. The brand will release a canvas tote bag produced through the project in late April.
The Ethical Fashion Initiative is a project launched by the World Trade Organization (WTO) and the International Trade Centre (ITC) based on the Millennium Development Goals agreed upon by UN member states and international organizations. It supports women in acquiring skills through training, earning fair wages, and becoming self-sufficient.
The zebra-print tote bag, designed by Jeremy Brown, product development advisor at the ITC, is handmade by female artisans in Kenya, from printing and sewing to accessories. It will be priced at 4,725 yen. It will be available at major UNITED ARROWS stores, The Airport Store UNITED ARROWS, the official online store, and ZOZOTOWN.

A United Arrows public relations representative said, "As a company, we sympathize with the project's philosophy and decided to participate because it is Japan's first global initiative that allows us to contribute to global development through fashion. We have not yet decided what our future plans are, but we would like to use this as an opportunity to explore various other initiatives."

Fashion brands currently participating in the project include Stella McCartney, Vivienne Westwood, and CHAN LUU.
