Mitsui Fudosan Co., Ltd. (headquarters: Chuo-ku, Tokyo) has decided to begin development of the second phase of Mitsui Outlet Park Sapporo Kitahiroshima (Kitahiroshima City, Hokkaido) and Kisarazu (Kisarazu City, Chiba Prefecture).
Mitsui Outlet Park Sapporo Kitahiroshima, which opened in April 2010, will expand its store network from 130 to approximately 175 stores, making it the outlet mall with the largest number of stores in the Hokkaido and Tohoku areas. In addition to the first phase, which offers a wide selection of imported brands and local gourmet food, the second phase will further expand its lineup with leading domestic and international brands, including high-end select shops, kids', sports & outdoor, fashion accessories, and lifestyle goods. The second phase will be connected to the first phase by a bridge on the second floor, providing a highly mobile space throughout the building.
Taking into consideration Hokkaido's climate, this facility is the first Mitsui Outlet Park to feature an enclosed (indoor) mall. The first phase will create a space where visitors can enjoy the warmth of the earth and wood, based on the facility concept of "coexistence with Hokkaido's nature." The second phase will aim to create a casual and stylish space based on the "country" design concept. Construction is scheduled to begin in May of this year, with the facility scheduled to open in spring of next year. Facing the main arterial road, Hitsujigaoka-dori, the facility is also close to National Route 36 and the Kitahiroshima Interchange on the Hokkaido Expressway, making it easily accessible from a wide area. Located midway between central Sapporo and New Chitose Airport, the facility is seeing an increase in visitors from both Japan and overseas, primarily from Asia. Last fiscal year, the facility generated sales of over 16 billion yen. Mitsui Outlet Park Kisarazu, which opened in April of last year, has expanded its store count from 174 to approximately 220, making it one of the largest outlet malls in the Tokyo metropolitan area in terms of number of stores. The facility will further expand its offerings, including international luxury brands, leading domestic and international brands, high-end select shops, fashion accessories, and lifestyle goods. The food court, featuring well-known Japanese stores, will also welcome new stores and expand its space by approximately 1.5 times.
In addition, based on the concept of an "environmentally symbiotic outlet mall," the first phase of the facility has installed approximately 600kW of solar panels and is proactively incorporating environmentally friendly facilities such as LED lighting. Plans are underway for the second phase to install approximately 200kW of solar panels. Construction is scheduled to begin in September of this year, with the facility scheduled to open in summer next year. The facility is located near Kisarazu Kaneda Interchange, the Chiba Prefecture terminal of the Tokyo Bay Aqua-Line, and at the gateway to the tourist destination of Minami Boso, providing easy access from throughout the Kanto region. In the first year since opening, the facility generated sales of over 41 billion yen, exceeding expectations.
Mitsui Fudosan currently operates 12 Mitsui Outlet Parks in Japan. The company launched its outlet business overseas with the opening of Shanjing Outlet Plaza Ningbo in China in September 2011. It plans to develop Mitsui Outlets Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) in Malaysia next winter, and the Linkou Zhongshang 36 Public Land Enterprise Attraction Project in Taiwan in 2017.
