Beautiful People is holding an event called "EDOMAE KAIHOKU," based on the 2013 Spring/Summer theme of "Edomae Trad," from April 24th to 30th at the "TOKYO Kaihoku" stage on the second floor of Isetan Shinjuku.
Tora-san from "Otoko wa Tsurai yo" (It's Tough Being a Man) appears throughout the venue on walls, monitors, and other surfaces. Unique productions include sales staff dressed in "Tora-san set-ups" from the collection, serving customers. Regarding this theme, designer Hidenori Kumakiri said, "When I was designing clothes, I was always looking for inspiration for new creations. I came across Tora-san, stylishly wearing the simplest check pattern, Tattersall. I've always had a deep respect for Edo culture, and Tora-san is a symbol of that. Tora-san wears a very traditional color combination of camel and sax, but with a baggy shirt. I thought the combination of old-fashioned Japanese clothing and subtle traditional elements was cool, so I chose Tora-san." While the brand specializes in incorporating traditional styles into women's wear, he commented, "I think we were able to achieve a balance that's cute for girls. However, capturing Tora-san's relaxed vibe was difficult." At the event, a collaboration T-shirt featuring a famous line from "Otoko wa Tsurai yo" was released in advance. A showpiece "Tora-san set" was also specially created for this event. The "Tora-san hat," a collaboration with hat brand CA4LA, has also been reproduced.
In addition, "Edo Kiriko Bangle" (31,500 yen) made by a Kiriko artisan and souvenirs wrapped in original patterned furoshiki wrapping cloths in collaboration with long-established rice cracker maker Ganko Shokunin will be available exclusively at the event. This marks the brand's first attempt at full-scale collaboration with traditional Japanese techniques.
