Searching for "money" scattered around Omotesando?! Art exhibition featuring works by Warhol, Beuys, and others at GYRE

Apr 30, 2013

From May 2nd to 26th, EYE OF GYRE, an art space within Omotesando GYRE, and the surrounding area will be hosting an art exhibition themed around money, titled "Money after Money: Trust Game 2013."

The exhibition focuses on currency and introduces works by contemporary artists, referencing works by Andy Warhol and Joseph Beuys from around 1980. It views money as a value-creating medium and explores its new possibilities. Other participating artists include UBERMORGEN, EXONEMO, Ellie Harrison, Christin Lahr, Nitipak Samsen, Philip Haas, and Julieta Aranda + Anton Vidokle.

During the exhibition, from May 11th to 26th, a special project called "Money Finder Harajuku" will be held in collaboration between the exhibition, EXONEMO, and GYRE. A game will be played in which participants use a dedicated app to find currency that has been virtually buried around the venue.

In addition, the related event "Turning Money into Art" will feature talks by Keio Business School associate professor Obata Isao, media artist Hachiya Kazuhiko, MaM executive producer Masuyama Hiroshi, and exhibition curator Shikata Sachiko, as well as a live performance by "mishmash*Julie Watai," a music project by Masuyama and Cornelius sound programmer Mishima Toyoaki. The performance will be held from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. on May 11th at Lapin et Alo, a gallery and live space in Omotesando (first 50 people).
