Braniff, the legendary airline known for its Pucci uniforms, is returning to Isetan Shinjuku with collaboration items!

Apr 30, 2013

"VINTAGE TRAVELER," a collaboration between the American airline Braniff International and various products, is being held at DECADE on the second floor of the Isetan Shinjuku store from April 24th to May 12th. Under the slogan "THE END OF PLAIN PLANE," Braniff International was the only airline in the United States at the time to own the Concorde, the world's first painted airplane, and the airline that created a new generation known as the Jets. With an airport lobby designed by mid-century modern design master Alexander Girard and staff uniforms by Emilio Pucci, the airline attracted worldwide attention as a carrier embodying the latest trends of the 1960s and 1970s. It ceased service in 1982. Even today, it remains a legendary airline with many fans.

The event was overseen by Yanagimoto Koichi, who is said to have sparked the airline boom. In collaboration with TRAVELER'S FACTORY, which sells travel-themed stationery and miscellaneous goods, the event will feature items inspired by the notebooks handed out to passengers on Braniff flights, such as notebook refills that resemble timetables, ballpoint pens inspired by colorful aircraft, and logo-shaped charms.

In addition to art pieces from Yanagimoto's collection, there will also be a number of special items, such as a mug in collaboration with Fire-King and a T-shirt collection in collaboration with Tokyo designer Beautiful People. During the event, customers who spend over 21,000 yen will receive a free 7-inch single record of DECADE's shop theme song, "ARE YOU LOOKING FOR SOMETHING?", created by musician Yasuharu Konishi. Special Braniff item shopping is also available online on Sumally. Koichi Yanagimoto is known as a collector of a wide range of items, from art to gadgets, with a focus on American culture. He re-edits his collection from his own unique perspective and presents it to the world with a new interpretation suited to the current social context. In 2002, he launched Glyph, a publishing company that produces exhibitions and provides corporate consulting. Recently, he has also worked as the concept director for shops and the visual director for the design auction Connect.
