SALT LOOKS LIKE SUGAR

Miuccia Prada's Spring/Summer 2025 collection marks the beginning of a series of cultural dialogues fostered by Miu Miu over the past 13 years, with pioneering female artists and filmmakers. Through Goshka Macuga's Miu Miu Spring/Summer 2025 runway, the artist's Miu Miu "Women's Stories" installation at the Palais d'Iéna as part of Art Basel Paris 2024, and collaborations with artists, Miu Miu explores a dialogue between the fields of art, cinema, and fashion. Since its inception, this exchange has aimed to explore the dynamics of vanity and how women see themselves through their own eyes.

Vanity and deceit are linked. As part of his installation, Goshka Macuga created a tangible newspaper, "The Truthless Times," and documented its creation in a short film. Both works explore ideas of truth, misinformation, and manipulation. The viewer is welcomed into a space reminiscent of a printing press, churning out information and presumed facts. The same elements present in the space can also be used as tools for scrutinizing details and deciphering the concept of truth. They also highlight the overwhelming amount of information that characterizes today's reality.

If the Fall/Winter 2024 collection proposed a sartorial language that encompasses life's experiences, Miu Miu's Spring/Summer 2025 collection explores childhood, a time of absolute truth. Before we know how to fake our emotions, we are all true to ourselves and our ideals. As a reaction to an age of information overload, simple clothing offers clarity and precision, perhaps even a way to speak honestly of our personalities.

It all starts with a white cotton dress. Inspired by a young child's wardrobe, the piece is archetypal: pure in form and purpose. In collaboration with Petit Bateau, Miu Miu reinterprets the classic piece for different ages.

Classic pieces are radically transformed by unconventional dressing, as if their purpose has been rediscovered. Sincerity remains intact. Cotton chemisette dresses are elongated and wrapped around the body, transforming their shapes. The transformation of utilitarian silhouettes into bustier dresses is almost insincerely alluring. Sweaters are tucked into tops, shirts are twisted. Wearing them wrong is a deliberate attempt to find something new.

Elements are also permuted and impulsively combined with others. The same element used in several pieces is transformed, shifted, and its purpose and even its truth shifted. An item that looks like nylon is actually silk. Very classic pieces create contrast, emphasizing the manipulation of regularity. It also highlights the beauty of the Miu Miu body of work. It is a true Miu Miu uniform, gradually constructed. Now it has become fully realized.

Miu Miu continues to build a world inhabited by diverse and strong-willed people, because they are the ones who wear the clothes. This season's runway featured a creative roster that included Nicole Kidman's daughter, Sunday Rose Kidman Urban, who walked the first look, Charlotte Cardin, Alexa Chung, Cara Delevingne, Noen Eubanks, Amelia Gray, Lena Mantler, Minni, Little Simz, Elliot Sumner and Hilary Swank, with Willem Dafoe rounding out the show. Many actors, accustomed to playing out imagined realities, presented their own truths on this stage.
