Marunouchi's classical music festival "La Folle Journée au Japon" will be held this year with the theme of love, prayer and passion for life.

Apr 8, 2015

The French classical music festival, La Folle Journée au Japon (Day of Passion) 2015, will be held from May 2nd to 4th at the International Forum and Yomiuri Hall, as well as in the Otemachi, Marunouchi, and Yurakucho districts.
La Folle Journée au Japon selects composers and genres based on a different theme each year. Over 2,000 artists, from established to emerging talent, regardless of nationality, will participate, with over 300 concerts taking place during the festival. Each performance lasts approximately 45 minutes, and you can enjoy performances by top artists at reasonable prices starting from 1,500 yen. There are also over 200 free performances, allowing you to enjoy a wide variety of music all day long.
The theme of this year's 11th festival is "PASSIONS: Music of Love, Prayer, and Life." The lineup features music composed from the Renaissance to the present day that expresses the ineffable aspects of human life, soul, and emotion. These pieces will be presented from three perspectives: "love," "prayer," and "life." Making their debut at the festival, this year's lineup includes the Düsseldorf Symphony Orchestra, conductor Daniel Reuss, a specialist in sacred choral music, and the young Baroque Ensemble Les Ombres. Pianists include Alexander Ghingin, who conveys the Russian spirit, and Fyrop Lánki, son of Hungarian pianist and renowned pianist, Lánki. Additionally, the Hungarian orchestra "Concerto Budapest" and the German classical band "SPARK," promoted by René Martin and others, will be visiting Japan, bringing a breath of fresh air to the festival.

Other concerts will fuse classical music with a variety of other genres, including a collaboration between Nohgaku, a specialty of LFJ Kanazawa, and masterpieces by J.S. Bach; a harmony between the Japanese transverse flute "Nohkan" and Corelli; and Portuguese folk song "Fado." There will also be a children's program called "Children's Music Atelier," master classes where you can receive lessons from the performing artists, music lectures, and film screenings.

Also, on the day of the event, a neo-yatai village with food trucks will appear in the ground plaza of the International Forum. Cafe menus will also be served in the exhibition hall, allowing you to enjoy food from around the world along with the music.
