Each bookstore will act as a concierge, recommending "the book you should read now" to FASHION HEADLINE readers. Every Thursday, each branch of the art bookshop "NADiff" will introduce a recommended book. This time, we'll be introducing Gallery 5, the Shinjuku branch in Tokyo (3-20-2 Nishi-Shinjuku, Shinjuku-ku, Tokyo Opera City Tower, 3rd floor).
■ "YOSHITOMO NARA SELF-SELECTED WORKS PAINTINGS" by Yoshitomo Nara
Yoshitomo Nara, a leading figure in Japan's contemporary art scene, has influenced the fields of fashion and music, and even those unfamiliar with contemporary art have likely seen his work at least once.
This book is a definitive collector's edition of his works, published to commemorate the 30th anniversary of his career as an artist. In addition to "PAINTINGS," "DRAWINGS" will also be released at the same time (image is from "PAINTINGS"). Approximately 100 works, including Nara's latest works and works not yet shown in Japan, selected by Nara himself, are divided into paintings and drawings, and each book contains its own collection.
Since 2001, no collection of Nara's paintings has been published in Japan, so this is a long-awaited book for fans, and it is very accessible and packed with content, even for people who don't usually have much opportunity to experience contemporary art.
In addition, the "Takahashi Collection Exhibition: Mirror Neurons," which will also feature works by Nara Yoshitomo, will be held at the Tokyo Opera City Art Gallery from April 18th to June 28th.
